HOW DOES IT WORK?
The HEROES HORSEMANSHIP CHALLENGE is a team based competition for veterans, active duty military, and family members to compete for the chance to be the winning team. Participants will be assigned to teams, each lead by a professional horse trainer, and will have an afternoon to practice and learn from their team trainer so they are ready to COMPETE for the big prize that evening.
We are so excited that this event will be held in conjunction with the GQHA Big A / Stars & Stripes yet again, with the event being held in the infamous Grand Prix arena.
The event will kick off with a GROUP CLINIC (approximately 4pm), where you will learn the basics of horsemanship, be introduced to your 'pattern' that you will need to complete for the competition that evening, and get to know your team trainer and fellow team members. From there, teams will divide up and follow the direction of their trainer for the afternoon to practice and prepare for the main event.
After all teams have had a chance to prepare, the TEAM COMPETITION will kick off. Each rider will have the chance to complete the pattern they practiced and be judged by a professional judge. Each rider's score will be contributed to the team total, and the team with the highest average score will be named the CHAMPIONS of the HEROES HORSEMANSHIP CHALLENGE!

FAQ's
DO I NEED RIDING EXPERIENCE?
Nope! We do prefer if you have had some exposure to horses/a little bit of time in the saddle, but it is not required. Simply indicate your experience level on our Sign Up Form so we can be sure to assign you to an appropriate horse and distribute experience levels across teams.
I DON'T WANT TO RIDE, BUT I HAVE A CHILD/ETC THAT DOES. CAN THEY PARTICIPATE?
Absolutely! This event is open to all active duty military, veterans, AND their family members. Select the "SIGN UP" tab and select the 'family member' choice on the appropriate question.
